Blossoms at Twilight

In the quietest corner of the hidden garden, she sat—a woman like no other. Draped in a gown of flowing black, her form was delicate, almost ethereal. But it was her face, or what should have been her face, that captivated him. A daffodil bloomed there instead, radiant and vibrant, a striking contrast to the twilight sky above.

Each evening, as the garden fell into a hush, Leo found himself drawn to her, watching from a distance. There was something unreal about her beauty, something magical. Was she a part of the garden itself, born from its enchanted soil? Or was she simply an illusion, a figment of his imagination?

On a whim one evening, he stepped forward, his feet moving before his mind had time to catch up. His heart pounded, yet with each step closer, a strange calmness washed over him, as if the fragrance of the flower soothed his nerves.

She turned toward him slowly, though he couldn’t quite tell if she could see him. “You’ve been watching,” she said, her voice carrying the softness of a breeze at dusk.

Leo swallowed, his mouth dry. “Yes... I couldn’t help it. You’re... stunning.”

A smile curled her petal-lips. “Most pass me by, thinking I’m just part of the landscape.”

“I couldn’t,” Leo murmured, his voice low as he sat beside her. “There’s something about you…”

For a long time, neither of them spoke. They just sat, the garden seeming to hold its breath around them, time itself forgotten. In that silence, Leo felt as though the boundary between reality and dream grew thinner, dissolving in the stillness.

At last, he found the courage to ask, “What’s your name?”

She tilted her floral head ever so slightly. “I have no name,” she answered, her tone serene. “But if you must, you may call me Bloom.”

He smiled, letting the word linger on his lips. “Bloom,” he repeated, savoring the sound. “Would you ever leave this place?”

She took a slow sip from her glass of golden nectar, her gaze distant, as if looking beyond the edges of the garden. “Perhaps,” she whispered. “If there were a reason.”

And in that moment, Leo knew his life would be filled with reasons to return to this garden, night after night.
